Good morning Fruitloops,
Have you ever wished, there were more open-minded people and less closed-minded people in this crazy world we live in? My answer is YES!
But why is this important? Easy answer in my opinion, we live in a diverse world with different cultures, religions and we also have different likes and dislikes. I might like sushi and you may hate it. I might love biltong and you might not even know what I am talking about.
Yesterday, a lady told me about the story of Moses parting the Red Sea – I know my version of the story and her story was indeed different (different religion). I didn’t mind BUT, and this is a big but, if it was someone else they might question this and might disagree and maybe even start a fight… Why? Because they are more closed minded, they don’t want to know.
It also came after an article I read about “minding your own business” and “giving people the privacy they want”… I won’t go to deep into this, since some parts of this article has been blowing up the internet. We are more invested in what other people are doing right or wrong that we forget about ourselves. We don’t want to learn anything useful but instead, we are watching people on the internet.
Imagine you’re about to jump out of a plane – sky-diving! You have your parachute strapped on. You are nervous, excited, maybe even questioning your life choices. But you take the leap and jump anyway… Because you trust your parachute.
Now… what happens if your parachute does not open?
You guessed it! You drop like a confused potato and splat! Not ideal.
Well, your mind is the same.
If your mind is closed you are stuck, stubborn, or just not interested in anything new. This won’t help you “land” safely in conversations, new ideas, or learning how to bake a cake or understanding why cats knock things off shelves.
But when your mind is open, you are open to a whole new world filled with marvelous things. The parachute opens up, catches air, and you float down carefully like a majestic butterfly in the wind.
It means you’re willing to learn, listen, grow, and explore new perspectives (maybe pineapple does belong on pizza, maybe the earth is flat… or whatever people believe these days).
Mindset is everything and when you change from closed-minded to open-minded, a whole new world awaits!
Happy Wednesday!
Dear Fruitloop,
thank you for this great article.
I find your comparison with the parachute excellent.
To paint the picture further, let us imagine that its ropes consist of tolerance, dialogue and respect.
What do others think?
Best regards,
Martin
