Remembering what truly matters beneath noise and habit.
Rediscovering Core Values
Defining Values and Rediscovery
Values are the principles and qualities that give our lives meaning — the invisible architecture behind our decisions, relationships, and identity.
Over time, external influences — family, culture, success — can blur what’s truly ours. Rediscovering core values means returning to what makes us feel most authentic, peaceful, and alive.
When we live from our values, our choices feel aligned; when we ignore them, we feel lost or conflicted.
Warm-up
- What quality do you most admire in people you respect?
- When in your life did you feel most proud of how you acted?
- Which value do you think you’ve drifted away from recently — and why?
Quote to Discuss
“When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier.” — Roy E. Disney
What Is a Values Reflection Practice?
The Values Reflection Practice is a guided exploration of what matters most — not what you’ve been told should matter.
It begins with self-observation: noticing when you feel energized, at peace, or proud. Those moments reveal the values already alive within you.
Example: The Three-Word Test
- Practice: Write down 10 words that describe what matters most to you (e.g., honesty, freedom, kindness, creativity).
Then, circle three that feel most essential. - Impact: Simplifying your list clarifies direction and highlights what guides your best decisions.
Reflective Question:
What emotions arise when you name your top three values — excitement, guilt, peace, or surprise?
Discussion Questions: Practice
- How do your daily actions reflect or contradict your chosen values?
- Which of your values feels inherited rather than personally chosen?
- How might life look different if you fully lived one of your top values every day?
What Is the Alignment Bridge?
The Alignment Bridge is the space between knowing your values and embodying them in real time.
It’s where intention meets behavior — where you choose to pause and ask, “Does this reflect who I truly am?”
Example:
- Value: “Kindness.”
- Alignment Bridge: When frustrated, you choose to breathe before reacting harshly.
- Result: You remain congruent with your core value even under stress.
Reflective Question:
When in your day could you pause and cross that Alignment Bridge — choosing action over autopilot?
Discussion Questions: Forward Momentum
- What’s one specific area of your life that feels misaligned with your values right now?
- How can rediscovering your values help you set clearer boundaries?
- What daily ritual could remind you of what matters most?
Dynamic: From Confused to Clear
When we live disconnected from our values, we drift in indecision or self-doubt. Rediscovering them brings focus, confidence, and calm — transforming confusion into clarity.
Deep Thinking Questions
- Are values discovered, chosen, or remembered?
- How do pain and challenge reveal what we truly care about?
- What happens when two of your values conflict?
- Can your values change without losing authenticity?
- Is living by your values always comfortable — or sometimes costly?
Reflection
Key Message:
Rediscovering your values is not a moral exercise — it’s a homecoming. The clearer you are about what matters most, the calmer and more confident your direction becomes.
Reflection Prompts:
- What is one value I will consciously return to this month?
- How can I make choices that honor who I am, not who I’m expected to be?
